UX/UI Designer
Part-Time (Contract), Remote (US)
Driver’s Seat is an early-stage startup building a driver-owned data cooperative for gig economy workers. We’re developing tools to solve important problems alongside the workers who represent a crucial and growing part of our economy, which requires thought and care in what we build and how we build it.
As a designer on our team, you’ll have the opportunity to join a company and a product from the start, working across every part of the stack to implement end-to-end features that improve daily work for drivers. This role is a part-time contract position. Compensation is competitive, based on experience and skills.
Responsibilities
Create customer-ready visual design, building on existing design patterns, or from scratch.
Design and implement an effective qualitative research program.
Design effective lean experiments, analyze results, and interpret data to make decisions.
Showcase design ideas through sitemaps, storyboards, and process flows.
Define user task flows and interaction models.
Create prototypes, wireframes, and mock-ups to demonstrate the functioning and layout of the product.
Optimises UI designs and tests for intuitiveness and user-centeredness.
Conduct usability testing to identify gaps in design and see if they can be further improved.
Qualifications
Can work effectively at system / ecosystem level.
Can identify need for new / novel elements, and can design and style them effectively.
Can create a simple, credible brand system.
Able to combine patterns with novel solutions in complex domains.
Able to create hand-drawn, static, and clickable mockups that are clean and appropriate for internal and external communication.
Has basic copywriting skills. Words align with business goals.
Has excellent judgement on choice of tool / method for the task at hand. Willing and able to learn new tools.
Able to make direct edits to HTML/CSS and has basic comfort with Git. Stays on top of new developments in front-end techniques.
Understanding of a range of UI and UX patterns, based on experience implementing patterns on previous projects.
Nice to Have Qualifications
Experience working in a small startup environment building end-user facing products.
Experience in working with underserved populations (Non-English speaking, low to no tech literacy, and unbanked).
Fluency in Spanish.
Experience working on gig work platforms.
